My 18th blog:

A Poor Church for the Poor: Giving Back, One Recipe at a Time

Today, April 26, marks the funeral of Pope Francis. As the world gathers to bid a heartfelt farewell to this extraordinary leader, I find myself reflecting on how this moment of profound significance connects to my own journey—both as a blogger and as a simple baker.

In a moment of clarity, I was reminded of a time when life’s complexities weighed heavily on me. It was then that I began to ponder how my humble craft as a baker could touch the lives of others, even in the smallest of ways. My thoughts often turned to the orphans—children who held a special place in my heart, though I never had children of my own. Through kindness and generosity, I longed to bring them joy and comfort.

Pope Francis’ life and mission resonate deeply with me. His unwavering focus on humility, service, and compassion for the marginalized—the very cornerstones of his papacy—rekindled my desire to use my passions to make a difference. Years ago, I donated baked goodies to an orphanage—a small act, but one that brought immense joy. Now, with renewed inspiration, I have embraced this opportunity to reignite my love for baking and take it to new heights.

Selling, marketing and producing my baked goods was never my forte, nor was it my goal. Baking was never about real serious business—it was about joy, both mine and that of others. My creations were simple—modest pastries and treats without the elaborate designs of fondant cakes or intricate techniques. Yet, there’s beauty in simplicity, and I believe that even the simplest treats can bring happiness to those who receive them.  For me, baking is more than a hobby. It’s a way to spread love, to connect with people, and to offer a piece of my heart in every treat I create. In this way, my baking mirrors Pope Francis’ mission to bring joy and simplicity to the world—a mission rooted in humility, compassion, and service.

Beyond baking, I discovered another avenue for creativity: blogging. Through writing, I’ve been able to share my thoughts and experiences, offering a sense of comfort and connection amidst life’s turbulence. Together, baking and blogging have become my way of making a difference—of reaching out, inspiring, and encouraging others to embrace the values Pope Francis exemplified so beautifully in his life.

As I reflect on his legacy, I am reminded that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact. Whether it’s baking a simple pastry, writing a heartfelt post, or simply being present for others, these are the ways we can carry forward the light Pope Francis has left behind.
